Say Goodbye to Ubuntu 18.04 and Hello to Ubuntu 20.04

Upgrading to a new version of your distribution is always tricky. As Ubuntu 18.04 is end of life on April 30th, 2023, it's time to say goodbye and hello to Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04.

To make the upgrade of the Opvizor appliance as smooth as possible we prepared a patch and guidelines for online and air-gapped (offline) environments.

You can learn more in our customer portal (please reach out to us if you don't have access).

Why Upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04?

Ubuntu 18.04 was released in April 2018 and is an LTS (Long Term Support) version, which means it is supported for five years. Therefore, April 2023 is the last month of support. Ubuntu 20.04, released in April 2020, is the LTS version that will be maintained for until April 2025.

Understanding Ubuntu Upgrade Paths

Before upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04, please make sure to create a snapshot.

There are two upgrade path options:

  • Patch: This patch allows you to upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 no matter if you run Opvizor with internet access or without (air-gapped).

  • Ubuntu native: No need for a patch, but the appliance needs internet access. You can find a guideline in our customer portal.

Can I expect any resource requirement changes?

No, there are no additional resources required after upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04.

Do I need a certain patch level before upgrading?

Yes, the Opvizor appliance needs to be upgraded to version 7.8.2 or higher before being able to upgrade the operating system.

Is this upgrade independent of the normal Opvizor patches?

Yes, the patch does not change any functionality of the Opvizor application itself.
